Vreni Michelini Castillo aka CHHOTI MAA

Migrant since the womb and born in front of Mercado Hidalgo besides the taqueria “El Paisa” in Guanajuato, Gto. V Michelini Castillo migrated to the U.S. as a child forced by the post-NAFTA exodus. She moved through Texas, Georgia, Virginia, Peru, Qatar, Ghana, Puerto Rico and California. V is an artist, musician, writer, bruja, emcee and educator with a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA from UC Berkeley. She has been been a working artist since 2007.
She is currently based in the Bay Area and Guanajuato and works for Richmond Art Center, Youth Speaks and Southern Exposure. V is part of two collectives: Aguas Migrantes and Brujalyfe. Aguas Migrantes is a collaboration with artist Susa Cortez, through which they offer an annual summer artist residency and a series of free workshops in rural and urban Guanajuato. Brujalyfe is a collaboration with emcee and educator MADlines through which they offer workshops, healing circles and music events.
